At Mirus, we love getting out and about as a team, and a select few of the MTeam ventured up Cadair Idris in Penygader, Dolgellau, Snowdonia National Park, Wales as a practice run for taking on Ben Nevis, Scafell, and Snowdon in the National 3 Peaks Challenge later in the year.
We unfortunately lost one adventurer, Iain, early on due to his dog, who was along for the ride but being a giant Irish Wolfhound, struggled with the rocky and uneven path up to the foot of the mountain.
Iain however, who ended up at the beach and walking at the foot of the mountain was not defeated,
“…as I didn’t go up with you lot (he means the MTeam) I’m back there on Friday, although I’m camping out by the lake.”
The remaining MTeam soldiered on, taking a WHOPPING 7 & a half hours! 99% of the team could have made it in 4 hours but stayed at the side of the slowest (Pippa) ensuring the team worked together.
Here's what the guys had to say:
"It was crazy hard! I'm not going to be able to sit down easily for a week!
"Ryan, Ben, and Roy were excellent company, ensuring we all stayed together and keeping my spirits high. They could have completed this without me in half the time but were by my side the whole way. Bonus points awarded all round!
“My tip? Down is harder than up, save your energy for that journey back to the car park, after walking all the way up, the way down is an epic event!"
“With Mirus, I have completed the National 3 Peaks Challenge, and also the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge. This year, I am looking to make it a Hat-Trick and complete the Welsh 3 Peaks. Having never walked Cadair Idris, I wanted to do this as part of practice run, making sure I knew what I was getting myself into as every single challenge I have done in the past I've completely underestimated how challenging it would be!
I had a really good day with some colleagues I am already close to, and some colleagues that are hard to get to know inside of work due to us both working on different sides of the business, so that was really nice.”
Roy Charman, one of the talented Mirus Service Desk Engineers had this to say:
“Saturday I decided to take the plunge and go for a walk with the MTeam across Cadair Idris, I really enjoyed the walk! It was also a great opportunity to train for the Welsh Three Peaks and I got to see Iain’s Dog!
“The best part for me had to be the view of the lake and getting a cheeky pose in! Hopefully this is the first of many events like this I join in with the MTeam. It’s adventures like this that set the MTeam apart from other IT Companies.”
Ben Peers,Project Solutions Engineer confirmed:
“I’ve done a few events with Mirus since I joined just over a year ago and I have to say this one was probably one of my favourites. My favourite part of the trip was making it to the top of Cadair Idris, the views were absolutely amazing and it was made even better by having such good company along the way. I can’t wait to go on more Mirus events in the future, each event I’ve been on with Mirus so far has always been enjoyable, although I have to say this one was probably the most challenging.
“It was great to be able to create relationships with other members of the MTeam as each of us work in completely separate departments we don’t always get time to create those bonds. These events help bring us all together and help keep our working environment fun and enjoyable.”
