The UK tech industry is suffering a gender gap. Despite the industry’s evolution few new roles and positions are becoming occupied by women.
Up until recently, the statistics surrounding women’s roles in the tech industry haven’t been encouraging:
But in the Mirus office alone, we’re noticing something of an upward trend.
The MTeam office still paints a rather typical picture; you’ll instantly notice how many more men occupy our desks than women. Yet the women of the Mirus office fill a diverse range of departments and, most recently, are starting to occupy the technical roles – not an area that sees much female representation.
As of January 2020, 20% of the 108 Mirus employees are women, and this percentage is increasing every year. With only 25% of all tech industry jobs being fulfilled by women in 2018, we’re hoping we can match, or even exceed that number in the near future.
Until then, we thought we thought we’d make a week of International Women’s Day. Every day, we’ll be catching up with a different female member of the MTeam to discover why they joined the industry, the difficulties they experienced – if any! – and whether their gender has made a difference to their industry experience.
Keep an eye on our blog over the week as we recognise the women of Mirus and champion the rise of the Mirus women in this vibrant industry!
