We have recently had some Lenovo tablets in for demo use and to show to our clients. It seems that the world of “convertible” laptops or tablets running full operating systems is beginning to grow. Gone are the days where most people want to lug around a huge laptop with massive specs, people are asking more and more for lightweight and high performing devices that can be used on the move and in the office.
We have seen Ultrabooks do very well in the industry but with Windows 8 being released and boasting design features centred around touchscreen use, there is now a growing requirement for a device that’s not quite a tablet but not a laptop either.
Tablets are big business at the moment, but devices such as iPads are restricted by only having a mobile operating system, so something that hosts a full Windows 8 Operating system is quite appealing! This means you can install your full Microsoft Office suite and other full applications such as Photoshop.
The usual manufacturers are selling these types of tablets, including the big guns; HP, Dell, Samsung & Lenovo. The model we have currently got for demo is the ThinkPad Tablet 2. And it has to be said, this little device is fantastic.
Some of the features we have seen that perhaps may not appear on other devices are things like the on-board pen holder and pen, snap view (dual view) in Windows 8, full USB and Mini HDMI for a 2nd screen and durability. When we say durability, we really mean it. The model we have can be dropped, hit against the desk and even have sharp objects run across the screen, all without damaging the unit. Of course it’s not bullet proof but I’m sure we all know someone who has dropped and smashed a screen of a tablet and how frustrating that can be!
There are a couple of different specs of the unit but the one that has got our team excited is this:
