MTeam Monthly Blog – May 2020

Yet again, the MTeam have spent another month in the comfort of our home offices, but that hasn’t stopped us having a fantastic May.

With the weather glorious and the team’s spirits still soaring, here’s how we continued to fight off the lockdown blues this month!

May certainly started on a high note, not least with the news that we’d once gain been shortlisted for the CRN Sales and Marketing Awards’ Best Company to Work For. While 2020’s nastiest surprise saw the awards ceremony delayed, we’re sure that its long-awaited return in July will be well worth the patience. Until then, our fingers – as always – are crossed!

As if to prove that the “Best Company to Work For” tagline wasn’t just bluster, the MTeam’s Senior Management Team all pitched in to send each and every one of us this delightfully ludicrous chocolate gift – complete with a “Thank You” poem for our hard work over the past few months. Who says romance is dead, eh? Our thanks go out to the SMT for this wonderful gesture. Mirus IT Chocolate

But it’s not only the senior managers that deserve our thanks this month, as May saw us celebrate Laura’s 5-year anniversary at Mirus. Laura’s a very valued member of the MTeam; a true team player who’s happy to help colleague and clients alike. We caught up with Laura recently, learning more about her contributions to the team, in our International Women’s Day blog series. Many thanks indeed Laura, you’re a valued member of the team.

Which brings us, of course, to our regular round of role recognition – the Colleague of the Month award. This week our Management Accountant, Aishling Savchuk, swept up the award thanks to the unanimous praise of her colleagues:

“Always willing to help and nothing is ever too much trouble”

“I think she has been an absolute trooper with keeping things going and moving”

“Whatever queries I raise she always gets back to me really quickly”

“She’s been under a super heavy workload with the auditors and everything else that’s been going on but she’s kept going and is still getting everything sorted!“

Great work Aishling – the workload may be heavy right now but you are absolutely crushing it!

Donating to Willen Mirus IT

You may remember that way back in March, we mentioned the huge stack of Easter eggs waiting for our eventual return to the Mirus office. Well, we decided there were much better things to be done with a surplus of 100-plus Easter eggs, and donated them to the people we thought deserved them most: the people at Willen Hospice, whose dedication to caring for end-of-life patients, their families and their carers has helped make a real difference to the local community. Thanks for everything you do, Willen.

Typically, the MTeam would spend this time of year enrolling in local voluntary work. Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic has seriously scuppered our plans for any physical assistance this year, and alas, our options for May’s Volunteering Week were strictly limited. As always, we’ll be looking for all-new opportunities upon our return to the office but until then, we thought we’d share last year’s contribution, renovating the Milton Keynes Discovery Centre.

Before we go, there’s still time to catch up with more MTeam members, who’ve been taking the opportunity to make the most of the nation’s ongoing lockdown. Let’s start with Pippa Loveridge, our Head of Marketing:

“I’ve been trying to ensure I walk at least 15,000 steps a day, and enjoy/appreciate everything we have in Milton Keynes and surrounding areas - so many wonderful walks. I’ve also been trying to run and am hoping to be able to run a 5k (non stop) by the end of this ordeal!

We’ve also been having little home workouts, as both myself and my daughter (who I’m in lockdown with) qualified as fitness instructors years ago, so we’re trying to move as much as we can.”

Elsewhere, Tom Williams, our finance director, had a family game of quidditch as well as a water fight. We've got the footage of both here - Tom assures us that efforts to eventually get the broomsticks airborne are ongoing!

Laura’s also been up to lots, with two anniversaries to celebrate and plenty of fresh scones to eat:

“My lockdown has mainly consisted of:

- Reading, painting and puzzles

- Finding lots of new local places to explore on runs and walks - I've discovered a lake with stepping stones in Wolverton, a      windmill in Bradville and a secret garden in Bradwell!

- Sneaking down to the beach to surf, BBQ and celebrate our 3 year wedding anniversary

- Drinking champers in the garden to celebrate my 5 year Mirus anniversary

- Eating homemade bread and scones from the Hatton bakery"

We may be locked down, but our spirits are as high as they’ve always been!

With June now upon us, we’re eager to see how the MTeam stays connected, keeps productive and retains that positive attitude that keeps us going day to day. We’ll see you then!
