So… it’s been quite the month, hasn’t it?
Businesses nationwide are now splitting up and working from home – and the MTeam are no different.
Still, early March definitely had its moments for us and, even with the MTeam forced to work from home, our indomitable spirit continued as we made the best of a bad situation.
Besides, we still made time for one awesome occasion before the lockdown came into effect by attending the long-awaited Milton Keynes Business Achievement Awards. Enjoying a three-course meal, wine and entertainment at the Marshall Arena in Stadium: MK, the MTeam attended to eagerly anticipate the results of the Customer Service award category, of which we were one of four successful nominees!
Sadly, we didn’t win the award this time around, although it was arguably a well-deserved win by the Acorn Early Years Foundation. Despite the disappointment, we’ve still had an absolutely fantastic (unbroken, almost!) year of award wins, including Business of the Year for Milton Keynes and Reseller of the Year at the CRN Awards. Most importantly, however, we’ve had a fantastic time at all the ceremonies, whatever the result. Many thanks to the organisers at the MKBAA, and congratulations to Acorn!
While we couldn’t celebrate another award win this month, we honoured a different Mirus achievement for International Women’s Day. The MTeam now has a much greater ratio of women than ever before and crucially, we’ve enrolled more women than ever into technical roles. It’s often lamented that women are poorly represented in the IT industry, let alone in a technical capacity, so we’re proud to be redressing the balance. There’s still a long way to go, of course, but in the meantime you can check out our International Women’s Day blogs as we catch up with the ladies of the MTeam.
There are plenty other people to celebrate this month too, including two new starters in Robert Morris, our new On-Site IT Manager, and Jonathan Peek, the Yellow Team’s latest Service Desk Technician. Fantastic to have you both on board – welcome to the MTeam!
There’s also the regular Colleague of the Month award to announce. Yep, working from home hasn’t stopped us recognising the achievements of the team; in fact, without this week’s winner, our home working solution may not even have been possible.
David Latham, our Internal Systems Manager, has done a frankly astonishing job of keeping the hundred-plus workforce at Mirus connected and working efficiently since home working was enforced. One commenter summed up David’s achievements quite aptly with their nomination: “Latham – no need to comment.”
Other praise for David this month includes:
- "It's got to be Big Dave, he's been an absolute hero trying to keep up with the internal requests since we invoked our BCP."
- "Upbeat, practical, honest and dedicated."
- "He has been great throughout all this helping set things up for home working and being lovely as always.”
David's services to the MTeam saw him achieve over 25% of all Colleague of the Month nominations for March, and a few can argue that this was entirely deserved. Well done David, and thank you for everything!
We also can’t forget the service and dedication of our own Mark Totman, who’s been part of the MTeam for 10 years now and continues to deliver the exceptional service our clients have come to expect. His contributions truly speak to the loyalty and camaraderie of the MTeam, and we’re delighted to have him on board. Happy anniversary, Mark – any chance of another ten, buddy?
So, how have the MTeam kept their spirits up with the lockdown in effect and our regular Friday Feeds indefinitely cancelled (arguably, the greatest injustice of all)?
Well, we must give thanks to Dan Sharp who created one belter of a live, online pub quiz in lieu of the Friday Feed. With snacks and drinks in hand, the Sales and Marketing teams met up on our first Friday afternoon of lockdown to take part. With general knowledge, music and Geography rounds, Dan truly brought the Sales and Marketing teams back together to demonstrate just how little so many of us really know. Yeah, thanks for that Dan. Now a weekly fixture, the MTeam continues to make regular events part of the fun of working at Mirus.
And that caps off an unusual month for us in the MTeam. Sure, events certainly threw us a little, but as March demonstrated, there’s nothing to stop us working hard, enjoying ourselves and delivering exceptional customer service.
We hope everyone else out there continues to do the same, despite the situation – after all, we’re all in this together.
