The Mirus Mavericks had a blast at this year’s Milton Keynes Soapbox Derby, helping to raise funds for the Milton Keynes Hospital charity and securing the titles of the Fastest and Overall Corporate Team winners.
In the MTeam’s Top Gun-themed soapbox car, our brave racers were put through their paces on the 200m soapbox course through Midsummer Boulevard and Saxon Gate. Paul O’Connor’s young ones, Amelia and Bailey, were the first to take the wheel as Junior Mavericks alongside Richard Finch’s daughter Molly.
Thanks to their efforts, the older team members were able to fine-tune the vehicle for all following races – so a huge thanks to the Mini Mirus Mavericks for securing us our ultimate victory!
Our adult racers, Paul O’Connor, Hannah Braxton, Adam Hatton and Iain Kendrick, each took their turn in our rudimentary racer, with a high-speed dash towards the chequered flag securing our position as the fastest overall racer in the Corporate Team event! Not a bad bounce-back from Iain’s mistimed stunt with some ceremonial smoke grenades - and not a huge surprise given the late-minute, ‘accidental’ cutting of the Soapbox brakes.
We’re exceptionally proud of the teamwork, organisation and spirit that our winning team put into this victory. More importantly, we simply enjoyed a good-spirited, successful community event that helped a kind-hearted local charity make a difference for yet more people. We look forward to next year’s derby!
Big thanks to the Mirus Mavericks Crew members, Aishling Savchuk, Tom Williams, Nick Sanderson and Darren Challender.
Well done to the guys at MK21 for arranging the event – epic work!
