Sarah Mott Mirus IT - International Women's Day

International Women’s Day Sarah Mott

For International Women's Day, we're posting a series of blogs featuring some of the women in IT at Mirus. Today we're featuring Sarah Mott, Telephony Accountant.

Sarah is part of the Accounts, Print and Telephony Teams, based from the main Milton Keynes head office.

Sarah joined Mirus as an Accounts Apprentice and is now responsible for not only the Telephony Accounts, but also the Co-ordination and Administration of Managed Print!

We caught up with Sarah for our 'Women in IT 2020' series of blogs.

What’s your role at Mirus, and previous experience in the IT industry?Sarah Mott International Womens Day 2020 (1)
I am an accountant and I look after our Mirus Telephony accounts along with co-ordinating/administration of Managed Print

What made you choose/inspired you to take up a career in IT/with Mirus IT?
I wanted to go down the apprenticeship route rather than university and I saw Mirus had an accountancy apprentice so I took the plunge and went for it!

What do you love most about working in IT/ at Mirus IT?
No day is the same – it’s always varied and keeps you on your toes. Everyone is always really helpful and very friendly. I really enjoy the work environment we have here and genuinely look forward to coming to work in the morning.

Sarah Mott International Womens Day 2020 (2)Do you think more women should consider tech roles, and why?
Most definitely! There are certainly a lot more women here than we have ever had before, I think that is partly due to change in stereotypes and women branching out into more tech roles which is really great to see as the IT industry is a thriving industry to work in as its always evolving and changing.

What struggles, or opinions if any, have you encountered along the way?
Sometimes in the IT industry it can be quite male dominant but I’ve not ever found this a problem and have always felt very comfortable in my work environment so I think as long as you find the right atmosphere to work in you should never have any issues.

Do you feel like your gender has affected your treatment or experience in the industry?
Not at all, at Mirus everyone is treated equally and with respect – I thoroughly enjoy where I work and I have progressed my career really well here and have never felt like my gender has held me back. Again I feel that is down to Mirus and being in an environment where gender doesn’t matter, it’s what you can bring to the table that counts.

Who's your idol?
I can’t really say I have a particular idol, I strive to be the best version of myself that I can be and I just like to be me and not let other people try and influence me negatively. I try and think of the type of role model I would like to be for the future generation and strive to achieve that.

What do you like to do outside of work, any hobbies?
My hobbies included playing computer/console games, cross stitching, baking and jigsaw puzzles! (I know, riveting!)

Thanks for your time Sarah, it's great to have you on the #MTeam!

Keep an eye on our main International Women's Day blog over the week as we recognise the women of Mirus and champion the rise of women in this vibrant industry!
