Imogen Carpenter - Mirus IT - Women in Tech - International Women's Day

International Women’s Day Imogen Carpenter

For International Women's Day, we're posting a series of blogs featuring some of the women in IT at Mirus. Today we're featuring Imogen Carpenter, Procurement Specialist.

Imogen's part of the Mirus Pocurement Team, based from the main Milton Keynes head office.

As Procurement Specialist, Imogen spends her days ensuring our clients orders, hardware and software, are placed and delivered to meet their timescales.

We caught up with Imogen for our 'Women in IT 2020' series of blogs.

What’s your role at Mirus, and previous experience in the IT industry?
I am a Procurement Specialist, I do all the quoting and ordering for customers and internal. I have not had previous experience in the IT industry as I was previously a hairdresser and joined Mirus as Procurement Apprentice! 😊

What made you choose/inspired you to take up a career in IT/with Mirus IT?Imogen horse riding

I chose a career in IT because technology is always changing which means the job will be changing also. You develop your knowledge throughout the years to understand the new requirements in businesses. I saw the reviews online about working at Mirus and the atmosphere looked amazing!

What do you love most about working in IT/ at Mirus IT?
You are always leaning and adapting to the new products. Mirus IT has a friendly bunch of people also! 😊

Do you think more women should consider tech roles, and why?
100%! This job is always fun, and it is also very rewarding.

What struggles, or opinions if any, have you encountered along the way?
Some of my friends judged me at the beginning of working in an IT role as they did not imagine me to enjoy the role/fit in. After being at Mirus, I have met friends for life!  Now I have been at Mirus for 2 years, they have noticed how much I am enjoying it and are looking into tech roles also. IT can be classed as  ‘geeky’ when it really isn’t!

Imogen with AliDo you feel like your gender has affected your treatment or experience in the industry?
On occasion, it's clear that the client I'm talking to, isn't too convinced that I know what I'm talking about, and they'll ask for confirmation from the Procurement Manager before they place their order. I don’t mind this though if it reassures the customer.

Who's your idol?
My parents 😊

What do you like to do outside of work, any hobbies?
I love to do makeup and hair, also spending time in my new home. Family time is also important to me.

Thanks for your time Imogen, it's great to have you on the #MTeam!

Keep an eye on our main International Women's Day blog over the week as we recognise the women of Mirus and champion the rise of  women in this vibrant industry!
