You may be aware of the Intel, Arm and AMD CPU flaw that has exposed nearly all computers, and many other devices worldwide to security flaws that leaves them vulnerable to attacks from hackers.
This has the potential to cause a large impact as the flaw presents an opportunity for malicious parties to take advantage of something called Speculative Execution, a technique used by most modern processors (CPUs) to optimise performance. The flaw could allow access to information held in system memory that should have been inaccessible.
This issue has been known by the industry for over six months, but has only just come into the public eye. This means that work is already underway to fix the problems. Security updates, bug fixes, general updates and patches are being sent out by manufacturers and we suggest that once these are received, they are installed immediately. Microsoft, for example, is releasing patches through their Windows Update service and updating their own Cloud based Azure infrastructure. Apple has confirmed that all Macs, iPhones and iPads are affected, but state that Macs running macOS 10.13.2 are safe as is their latest iOS version 11.2.
Mirus IT will be ensuring patches and updates are initiated for all affected clients as soon as they are available through our own change control and patch strategies.
Please be aware that there are no known attacks via these vulnerabilities, but now that they've been made public, there is potential for attackers to exploit them.
