Aah, 2020. The year of online conferences, virtual pub quizzes, and those endless queries of “Can you guys see my screen yet?”
But while circumstances may have kept us apart, they’ve also reinforced the importance – and benefits - of reliable comms solutions.
Over the past 4 months, business have had to make serious revisions to their enterprise telephony, accommodating their workers, their clients and their corporate partners. The sudden introduction of our nationwide lockdown kickstarted a precarious balancing act; one that forced us to mobilise our contact channels without compromising our services. For many of us, it was all too much, too soon.
Even so, once lockdown is lifted, we’re unlikely to turn the clocks back on our telephony. If anything, the investments we’ve made this year alone have raised the bar on current standards. We’ve mobilised entirely, migrating our office handsets to our more capable laptops and mobile devices. We’re conversing over VoIP-enabled services such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams, which may soon replace email as the most effective way to talk and share pertinent documents. Many of us have even broadened our customer reach, providing contact via the same channels, but with much more versatile ways of communicating. In many ways, the burden of that sudden change has been offset by the competitive benefits.
Even so, there’s undoubtedly room for improvement. In the rush to implement their latest solutions, many users may have taken a safety-first, strategy later approach; and while this was always the smarter option, a further review of your business telephony could reveal more strategic solutions. How has the nature of your call volumes changed, for example? Has broadening your reach helped lessen the load of more active call periods? Has migrating your contact numbers to mobile devices quickened the average answer time? And could tracking call statistics help you identify your highest achieving operators?
In 2020, our telephony was for coping. In 2021, it’s for competing. The winning businesses will be those that embrace the versatility of VoIP and broaden their opportunities for customer dialogue. They’ll streamline B2B communications, encouraging smarter, more effective conversations with partners, and make the return on investment they deserve from the past year’s changes.
For next year’s businesses, communication is king.
