Monthly December Blog

An Awesome Christmas and New Year for the MTeam!

Wow. If ever there was a year to go by in the blink of an eye, 2019 would be a prime contender.  Still, time flies when you pack a year with as much excitement as we in the MTeam have, and even those chilled December vibes didn’t stop us from ending the year on a high.

The month kicked off with that old office staple, the Secret Santa gift exchange; where being anonymous allowed us to gift our co-workers things we’d be far too embarrassed to hand over personally – we’ll spare them the shame for this blog.

There was also the regular Mirus Christmas party, where we and our chums from ITLab got together to paint the town of Milton Keynes red. Your humble blog writer didn’t quite make the festivities, but the night has been described as ‘brilliant’, ‘hilarious’ and ‘messy’ in equal measure, as the team hit the local bars, pubs and clubs to welcome our new friends and show off our dancing skills. Or lack thereof.

And there was plenty more to celebrate this month besides the festive period; we’ve been recognised as one of the Top 50 Managed Service Providers in the UK, plus we’ve been nominated for the Milton Keynes Business Achievement Awards 2020 as finalists for the Customer Service category. We’ll know the result following the awards ceremony in March 2020. Wish us luck!

We welcomed two new starters to the MTeam this month. Please welcome Trevor Langley, our new Senior Service Operations Engineer and Lauren Quinn, our new Service Desk Technician. We’re sure you’ll both love it here!

The excitement of new employees doesn’t distract us from the achievements our longer serving MTeam members, however – which is why December’s Colleague of the Month is none other than our Project Solutions Engineer Gary Darriba! In the words of our Managing Director Paul Tomlinson, Gary is “on fire” this month, and according to the kind words of his colleagues, the rest of the MTeam agrees:

“I would like to vote for Gary Darriba, he always completes his work on time (or before), is always willing to help others in the team and the wider business and also wants to keep on improving.”

“Absolute superstar, helps us win clients and deliver amazing projects”

Well done Gary – a well-deserved win indeed!

As our client base slowly switched on their “out of office” for their own Christmas breaks, our office was strangely empty and eerily quiet, too. As most staff took off time to be with their families and prepare for the big day, those still working on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve were treated to pizza (where, true to form, the pineapple flavoured varieties were ignored) and a Scalextric competition at lunchtime. Thanks to Ryan Taylor for bringing in his set and letting some of us in the MTeam relive the excitement of opening our childhood Christmas presents! Honestly, we were just a few pairs of pyjamas away from reliving our adolescent slumber parties, and it was glorious.

And sure enough, one week and one bank holiday later, 2019 was over. Sure, December was a quieter, simpler month for Mirus, but we ended 2019 the way we came in; winning awards, having fun and filled with renewed spirit.

We can’t wait to see what 2020 brings, but we’ll be sure to share it all with you when we return at the end of January. Happy New Year!
